Household Chemical Disposal
This month we are highlighting some great information that the City of Aurora has on their website. Share information on social media channels such as some of the things below throughout the month to help residents choose the correct method of disposal.
Aurora, CO Drop-off Program
Waste Management offers a drop-off program for residents who find themselves in a time crunch, (e.g., relocation or home sale). Residents can call the Waste Management hotline, at 800.449.7587, and provide the operator with the reason for the drop-off request. Additional information on materials accepted through the program can be found on the Waste Management website.
Household Chemical Roundups
- Adams County, Arapahoe County and Douglas County offer programs to assist their residents with disposing of household chemicals and electronics. Visit their pages details.
PaintCare Program
- Through the FREE PaintCare program, unused paint can be returned to many of the locations where it was purchased. For a complete list of locations and items accepted, visit PaintCare. There are limitations on how much paint you can drop off at each visit, and not all retail stores accept paint for recycling. Contact the store directly to confirm business hours and their ability to accept what you would like to recycle.
- For larger amounts, mix in kitty litter or paint hardener, which is available at most paint stores. Once dry, it can be thrown away.
Household Chemicals
- Businesses throughout the city also offer recycling options for certain items which may offer a quicker and more cost-effective solution, depending on your specific waste. Call ahead to confirm that the location nearest you is currently accepting these materials for recycling.
- To recycle propane cylinders 1lb or under, visit Metrogas Inc. They will recycle them for 25 cents each. Metrogas Inc is located at 790 W. 64th Ave., Denver CO 80221. Call 303.428.3036 or visit from 7:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
Check Earth911.com for other recycling and disposal options.
